WHY ISN’T IT AT THE TOP OF THE BEST SELLERS?

Like many authors, I was disappointed that my book was launched at about the worst possible time, just prior to Lockdown 3. Well, it was early December actually, but far too late for any Christmas sales. All the bookshops I visited were rushed off their feet, dealing with their Christmas sales  –  for which they were so grateful, having been closed for so long. Few had time to even talk to me, let alone consider stocking the book in time for Christmas. Probably, also like many authors, when the book was in the process of being made, I had desperately hoped to capture that all-important Christmas market but it wasn’t to be.

I have worked tirelessly on its promotion, even mentioning it to tradespeople with whom I’ve come into contact. Even if only one of them decides to buy the book, well… every little helps. It’s not all about sales (although that is extremely desirable) but it’s also about “getting it out there.”

Sometimes it only has to be picked up by the right person for word to spread quickly. Although I have personal reservations about the enormity of Amazon, it cannot be denied that many people are guided by the reviews on Amazon  –  and anyone connected with the book itself (me, my family, etc) are banned from submitting one, which makes it a much fairer indication of how the book is being received.

We have a long way to go and it is a very hard slog. Every time I think I’m running out of ideas I think of a new way to bring the book to the reading public’s attention. So for now, back to the desk to switch on the Ideas Light…
